Gigflation: Why Calgary's Music Scene is Crippled
And what we're doing about it
Ever feel like no matter how hard you hustle, no matter how tight your set, your gigs barely pay for a meal… let alone your craft? Yeah. Welcome to Gigflation. Calgary’s latest (and crippling) challenge to independent artists.
Gigflation? Yes. This is what it is…
Gigflation is the disease flattening Calgary’s music scene. By definition (ours, and you can swipe it) it is: the oversupply of useless gigs that devalue your career. It’s Calgary’s abundance of oversaturated shows, recycled venues, and a constant stream of emerging artists chasing $200–$500 “gigs” that barely scratch the surface of what they’re actually worth. Sound familiar?
It’s not your fault. The system has made this the best you can do. Pennies for hours of work, days spent in rehearsal, in setup, in show mode. Every set, every note, every drop of sweat? Undervalued.
How it happened
Too many venues chasing the same “exposure” model. Too many promoters promising dream gigs (looking at you, Dream Dealers of Grey Wisteria). Too many artists hustling in a city that’s been flattened by repetition.
The result: a city full of talented musicians who can’t see their own value because the scene has trained them to think $200 a night is “as good as it gets.”
Meet Grey Wisteria, the satirical culture vultures who started this circus… Darrin, Avery and Elery “Eli” Granger
Why it matters
When gigs are cheap, audiences tune out. Real talent gets diluted in the noise. The city stops craving music. Shows feel like background noise. The art becomes a commodity, not an experience. Your story doesn’t get heard. Your stage doesn’t matter. And the scene dies from the inside.
But here’s the thing: your work is worth way more than pennies…
Enter MusicFit
We’re not just out here talking about the problem… no, no. We’re building the antidote.
Export Series Tour → gets artists out of Calgary’s echo chamber and onto stages where audiences actually crave new sounds. Where your set matters, your story is heard, and your worth is recognized.
The MusicFit Method → a lifestyle methodology for artists who want to build a sustainable creative life, both on and off stage. More on this in the coming weeks

Gigflation is the trap.
MusicFit + Export Series + The MusicFit Method = the cure.
We’re building a system where artists are seen, heard, and valued and where Calgary’s music scene can thrive again, one powerful story at a time.
If you’re an artist and wanna learn how you can put the “Bar Tab Circuit” behind you, stay tuned. We have some very cool news coming in April.
